Take a Step, Repeat

Do something good. Keep it small. Do it again.

“Do good deeds which are within your capacity as Allah does not get tired of giving rewards but surely you will get tired and the best deed in the sight of Allah is that which is done regularly.” -Prophet Muhammed, as narrated in Sahih Bukhari (2:41)

Fulfill Your Obligations Absolutely

Fulfill your obligations absolutely, but know that you are only human.

Whenever you go to bed perform ablution like that for the prayer, lie on your right side and say, “O Allah! I surrender to You and entrust all my affairs to You and depend upon You for Your Blessings both with hope and fear of You. There is no fleeing from You, and there is no place of protection and safety except with You O Allah! I believe in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.” Then if you die on that very night, you will die with faith. Let the aforesaid words be your last utterance. – Prophet Muhammed, as narrated in Sahih Bukhari (4:247)

Relentless Reflection, Continuous Improvement

Never cease to reflect on where you’ve come and the possibilities of where you can go.

A ruler, having obtained control over the affairs of the Muslims, who does not strive for their betterment and does not serve them sincerely shall not enter Paradise with them. – Prophet Muhammed, as narrated in Sahih Muslim (20:4502)

Find your purpose and responsibility

Find your purpose and responsibility to yourself and to the world, and take steps to fulfilling that obligation.

Take heed. Every one of you is a shepherd and every one is answerable with regard to his flock. The Caliph is a shepherd over the people and shall be questioned about his subjects as to how he conducted their affairs. A man is a guardian over the members of his family and shal be questioned about them as to how he looked after their physical, emotional, and moral well-being. A woman is a guardian over the household of her husband and his children and shall be questioned about them as to how she managed the household and brought up the children. A slave is a guardian over the property of his master and shall be questioned about it as to how he safeguarded his trust. Consider this a word of caution, every one of you is a guardian and every one of you shall be questioned with regard to his trust. – Prophet Muhammed, as narrated in Sahih Muslim (20:4496)

Peak Performance (12 of 12): Setting Performance Goals

Set clear goals that you can work towards with unambiguous steps.

“Verily the Hour is coming, and My Will is to keep it hidden from mankind – so that every soul will be rewarded for that which he strives for, of good or evil.” – Quran 20:15

And whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it with deeds worthy of it, while being a believer, then such are the ones whose striving shall be appreciated, thanked and rewarded. – Quran 17:19

Peak Performance (8 of 12): Competitive Planning

Plan carefully and comprehensively with consensus.

And those who answer the Call of their Lord and perform salah and conduct their dealings by mutual consultation and who spend out of what We have bestowed on them… -Quran 42:38

Then, implement rapidly!

By Time! Verily, man is in loss… except those who believe and perform righteous deeds and enjoin each other to truth and enjoin each other to patience and perseverance. -Quran 103
