Take a Step, Repeat

Do something good. Keep it small. Do it again.

“Do good deeds which are within your capacity as Allah does not get tired of giving rewards but surely you will get tired and the best deed in the sight of Allah is that which is done regularly.” -Prophet Muhammed, as narrated in Sahih Bukhari (2:41)

Invest in Yourself

Invest in yourself by learning how to help others and help yourself.

Abu Hurayrah narrated: While a man was in the wilderness, he heard a voice from a cloud, commanding: “Irrigate the garden of so-and-so.” After that, the clouds slinked aside and poured water on a stony ground. The water filled a channel amongst the channels of the land, and that man followed the flow of the water until he found another man standing in a garden who was busy with changing the course of the water with a tool. The first man said to the second, “Oh slave of Allah, what is your name?” The second man responded, “So-and-so.” And this was the very same name the first man had heard from the clouds. The second man asked, “Oh slave of Allah, why do you ask me my name?” The first man responded, “I heard a voice from the clouds, from which this downpour originated, saying, ‘Water the garden of so-and-so’, like your name. What do you do for the favor of Allah to be shown to you in this matter?” The second man said, “Now as you see. I look at the yield I get from the land, and I give one-third as charity out of it, I and my children eat one-third of it, and the remaining third I return to it as an investment.” – as narrated in Sahih Muslim (42: 7112)

A Heart of Purity

Always carry a heart of purity and do not dabble with impurity.

Both pure and impure things are evident but in between them there are doubtful things and most of the people have no knowledge of their purity. So whoever saves himself from these suspicious things saves his religion and his honor. And whoever indulges in these suspicious things is like a shepherd who grazes his animals near the private pasture of someone else and at any moment he is liable to get in it. O people! Beware! Every king has a private pasture and the private pasture of Allah on the earth are the things He has forbidden. Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart. – Prophet Muhammed, as narrated in Sahih Bukhari (2:49)

Justice and Mercy

When managing people, and in all communication and interactions, be just and merciful.

O Allah, whoever acquires some kind of control over the affairs of my people and is hard upon them-be hard upon him; and whoever acquires some kind of control over the affairs of my people and is kind to them-be kind to him. – Prophet Muhammed, as narrated in Sahih Muslim (20:4494)
